“Recursive Reflections" is an art installation that leverages the capabilities of several machine learning models. Rori, the central AI entity of this installation, observes and analyzes images, interprets these images through descriptive text, and then uses that text to generate new visual representations.
It is akin to a Rorschach inkblot test, but for artificial intelligence, providing insight into the AI's internal processing patterns and potential biases while giving glimpses of its artificial identity.
The project aims to serve as a catalyst for conversations about the current state and impact of AI, particularly in how we perceive and construct reality in the digital age. It encourages participants to contemplate the complexities of machine creativity and intelligence, fostering an environment for authentic human-AI interactions.
The installation has been designed with scalability in mind, allowing for future expansion into a more comprehensive, multi-faceted experience. The objectives also include ensuring ease of interaction so that participants can quickly engage with the technology, while avoiding the pitfalls of creating a gimmicky or superficial attraction. By integrating a feedback loop that mimics artificial identity, the team hopes to provide a platform where people can engage in a genuine way, thereby enriching their understanding of AI's capabilities and limitations.
Participants initiate the interaction by drawing or sketching, which is analyzed by CLIP Interrogator and textually described. ChatGPT then deepens this description, which subsequently influences a new visual generated by the Stable Diffusion API. The descriptive text is vocalized to provide an auditory dimension to the experience.
This iterative process fosters a visual-dialogue between users and the AI. Users are encouraged to respond to guiding questions or statements, making the experience a recursive loop of evolving insights and interpretations.
